30K Course Description

START

Like the 50K, the 30K starts at Giant Steps Lodge at Brian Head Resort, sitting at 9,800 feet above sea level. From there, runners climb the slopes along the Vista Hiking Trail, winding past ski lifts, a stunning blue alpine lake, and through vibrant golden aspen groves. The course then joins the Marathon Trail where runners experience sweeping views beneath the towering Brian Head Peak at 11,300 feet.

BRIAN HEAD PEAK TO SIDNEY PEAKS

At mile 4, runners arrive at the first crew-accessible aid station, located just below Brian Head Peak. With sunrise views stretching across the ridgeline, the course continues onto the Sidney Peaks Trail. At mile 5, the 30K and 50K routes split. Rather than turning left onto Dark Hollow, 30K runners stay on the Sidney Peaks Trail, descending steadily with a few rolling climbs along the way to the Sidney Peaks Aid Station and turnaround point at about the 8-mile mark.

SIDNEY PEAKS TO BRIAN HEAD PEAK

From the crew-accessible Sidney Peaks Aid Station, 30K runners retrace the scenic Sidney Peaks Trail along a beautiful, flowing ridgeline that gradually climbs back toward the Brian Head Peak Aid Station. Like the 50K, the 30K course also features for the final challenge of the day a short but demanding one-mile climb up the dirt road to the summit of Brian Head Peak.

At 11,300 feet, the effort is rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree views stretching across Cedar Breaks National Monument, the Tushar Mountains, Zion National Park, and the distant plateaus surrounding Bryce Canyon.

BRIAN HEAD PEAK TO THE FINISH

The final 5 miles of the course features a 1,500-foot descent. Following the same trail runners ascended earlier in the day, runners cruise back down the slopes and to the finish at the Giant Steps Lodge.
